The African Spurred Tortoise or also known as the African Spur Thigh Tortoise lives in Sahara dessert. This tortoise is a mainland tortoise. According to the records, the oldest African Tortoise lived up to 56 years whereas they can live up to 80 years long! They are herbivores and they get their foods from the wild such as dried grass and leaves.

This African Tortoise normally travels a long distance just to get some food. They also have a sweet tooth thus make them treat lovers such as for apples and other fruits. But owners must remember that they must give and feed this tortoise just the right amount of fruits to prevent any intestinal problem such as diarrhea. They love to stay and live in warm and dry places wherein they could get as much sunlight they need.

The other kind of African Tortoise is the Leopard Tortoise. Leopard Tortoise or known as Geochelone pardalis is an attractively marked tortoise. These tortoises are usually found in the savannah desert. They lived in both hot and cold environment together with the foxes and jackals. This Tortoise loves to graze on the grass and also very fond of eating the prickly fruit of cactus and thistles. This tortoise can, unbelievably, live up to 100 years. This Tortoise has a high and domed carapace and its scutes are pyramid shape. This tortoise is a bit coward thus hiding their heads more inside their shells and make hissing sound.

If you are planning to keep them as pets, you need a larger enclosure and it is advisable to place its shelter outdoors.
